profile — Marc Vermeeren

With an education in graphic design, Marc started working at Achtung back in 2007, where he contributed to award-winning websites in the Flash era. He then moved to New York City to join Firstborn. In 2012 he joined MediaMonks and help establish the New York office and was one of the first in the LA office in 2014. He advanced to more senior roles and provided art and design direction for clients such as Adidas, Ray-Ban, and Google.

Fascinated by fashion and the culture it created, Marc went back to Amsterdam and became an Art Director at Random Studio. Here, he worked for Raf Simons' iconic label, and worked with PVH to reduce sample waste by help building a digital showroom which later became a startup in its own right called HATCH.

Late 2018, Marc went freelance to broaden his horizon. Through his drive and curiosity to understand the world around him he started to shift more into research, strategy and business consultancy. Taking on creative direction jobs at ad agencies like Droga5 as well as strategic research project at Space10 all the while still taking on design and art direction jobs for Het Nieuwe Instituut, music festival Dekmantel and Sotheby’s.

He also pursues not-for-profit projects, research and community through his collective, Decentalized Agency. Started mid pandemic, in an attempt to try to make sense of our ever changing world and to figure out a way to apply all these learned skills to simultaneously prevent and adapt to those radical futures.

Abbreviated history

2007 is the year his career started at ACHTUNG! in Amsterdam.
In 2010 he moved to New York City to work for Firstborn.
Around 2012 he started at MediaMonks in the NYC office.
From 2014 to 2016 he spend his time traveling between the NYC, LA and HQ (Hilversum) offices for MediaMonks.
In 2017 he joined Random Studio.
From 2018 onwards he has been working independently, based out of Amsterdam but working mostly abroad.
In 2020 he co-founded Decentralized Agency together with Bryan Wolff.
